Ive been Waiting years for Wayland
Wouldn’t that make Xfce turn into Wce?
Well the ‘Xf’ comes from Xforms, but Xfce has not used that library for quite a while now.
That last one always pisses me off. “It just gets out of my way”. Who sits there and interrupts their thought process because a window animation they’ve seen a thousand times before happens again?
@ikidd @cm0002 This is the major reason I prefer the lighter desktops, Mate, XFCE, LXDE, LXQT to monstrocities like KDE Plasma, Gnome (especially as configured by Ubuntu, less unpleasant on other distros), and yea, I know that Gnome and KDE can both be configured to not be so obnoxious but time in the day thing.
Not to mention you can turn them off or set eg KDE to functionally look like Xfce.
But then again - they also mention that ‘you can tweak’ Xfce as a key plus (after the key plus of it being standardised & not offering surprises). I don’t think that a plus relative to other popular DEs.
I’m OK with there being articles, but it seems they def had the idea of the format of the article (“top 5 things”) before they had the content/the pros drafted.
Yeah what desktop environment doesn’t get out of your way? Even Windows with the ads enabled leaves you alone 99.99% of the time.
All DEs get in your way - we get mad when they don’t (ie they crash)!

@cm0002 Not my favorite but a reliable fallback when Mate breaks.
yeah, gots to love mate. i use it for pretty much all the reasons listed above.
i have recently switched to sway but i do miss my xfce+i3 setup sometimes :(
