I’m trying to find a cracked version of Tableau Desktop, but none of the DDL sites I looked at in the megathread had it. 1337x has some older versions, but I’m not sure if I trust them.
I had downloaded and installed the 2020.1.3 release on 1337x by FTUApps, but apparently they’re unsafe since they released an infected crack a couple years ago. Is that specific release, dated two years before that announcement, safe? I only installed the application itself without implementing the crack file before seeing the announcement, but I did of course have to run it as admin, so I imagine I’m safe if potential malware is only in the crack file but infected if it’s in the installer.
Either way, what’s the most recent crack of Tableau that can be trusted?
Just run it in a VM?
That or a sandbox is an option. But it is a bit inconvenient, and I would like to know if the installer gave me malware. I needed to run it from an elevated command prompt to bypass a red UAC warning.
If the data you’re handling isn’t sensitive in any way (or you can eg. anonymise / pseudonymise it) and you don’t have anything else sensitive on the VM, it wouldn’t really matter either way – and as @MrPoopyButthole@lemmy.dbzer0.com said, if you’re running an executable from some yarrr site you’re probably going to get malware
If you run executables from pirate sites, 9 times out of 10 you will get malware.
