Will talk about Linux, plants, space, retro games, and anything else I find interesting.
Also mesa@piefed.social over on Piefed.
Self hosting and open source to me is the most important part. Federation can come if the need arises. I was just curious.
I’m personally going to stay on my matrix channels as they seem more established. But it’s good to have options.
Right now discord seems fine but I’ve already lived through many de-platforming events. And one day it too will go the way of the dodo. People getting attached to nameless online services is funny.
Thanks!
So why not matrix?
Is revolt federated?
Thanks @helpcomputer0@mastodon.art !
Just fyi, other companies like miyoo are thinking of stopping the US shipments as well. At least according to annon discord convos with support. But with the situation changing by the hour who knows.
I thought that most of it was not made in china?
Ive used this before: https://git-scm.com/docs/gitweb
We did. You bring down the branch and then discuss. We used jetbrains and it had a function like that. But it was a while back.
Huh interesting, maybe it was the way we used it 15-20+ years ago or maybe it changed. No clue. But yes you are correct.
The biggest thing git does is one person can get one or many branches (AKA version control) on ANY machine. They all act like they are the source of truth. CVS/Mercurial/etc…all have the issue that they expect to be on one machine as the source of truth. And if that machine ever goes down…
Before git (ya im old), I used a plethora of services like git. There were times back then when a server was down and the history…was just gone.
I worked at a place that just had a git on a sftp server and that was it. Worked well in a small team. Git is made for it.
Having a separate issue tracker turned out to not be a big deal at all. Theres a lot of niceties github has, but it turns out you really dont need a whole bunch to make good software.
Nowadays i would probably go with gitea or forgeo if I had to self host, but git by itself is perfectly fine.
Retropi is great!
At least for me, we had 2/4 joycons develop stick drift and we had to replace the sticks with magnetic ones. It was expensive, but worth it. But ill be honest, for the price, im not looking to get the Switch 2 this time around.
Baen library has drm free books one could buy.
Nice! Thanks.
Just about. People are expecting miyoo and some of the other companies to follow in a bit. Theres some American stock still in Amazon warehouses, but thats basically it.
It takes 3 weeks to get over here via boat so im thinking we will see more and more cancellations with various shipments in the next coming weeks.
It’s a fairly popular retro gaming handheld company.
With taxes the controller is now over 100$. Hope your kids dont break it…
I use popos because I own a system 76 and it’s what I’m used to.
I’m not sure what you mean? I have voice, video and text working on my yunohost without any real issues. My wife and I use it all the time. Element (the client) could be a bit easier def on the initial experience, but to me that’s it.
The thing discord has is the people. When discord went down a couple of weeks ago, my tiny instance quadrupled in users. And the local city specific matrix got quite a few.
