The 2nd mortgage will be if you plan on playing more than a couple of games a year.

Nintendo: “We also had to raise the price of digital games to $200.”
“But tariffs don’t apply to digital games.”
Nintendo: “Ah, yeah. Well, whenever you notice something like that, tariffs did it.”
“But why does the rest of the world have to pay the price, too?”
Nintendo: “TARIFFS!”
If you don’t care about bleeding edge 8k visuals at 240fps, the pricing becomes more reasonable. I’m fine with 1080p 60fps, which allows for a cheaper GPU to run games decently. And you can’t deny that as far as game pricing is concerned, PC is far more consumer-friendly than console, even if you don’t take piracy into account.
I’ll wait and pay $90 for the Switch 2 version.
It’s been a couple years since I tried PS3 and Xbox 360 emulation, but when I did it on PC was the compatibility of the emulator rather than processing power that caused most game to not be playable. It ran Katamari Forever really well, so I’m hoping I can get it running on the Steam Deck, too!
I prefer gaming on a TV and the simplicity of putting a game in and it just works on console, which is why I’ve always mainly been a console peasant. I’ve always also gamed on PC, but as more of a side thing. These prices, though…gaming is rapidly becoming too expensive for the average person to keep up with playing the newest stuff. PCs are a higher up front cost, but the open nature of the platform means you have a lot more flexibility with how you can obtain games.
I expect I’ll be using the money that would have gone to a PS6 to invest in a decent gaming PC when the time comes.
Gaming is becoming less and less accessible and more and more of a luxury.
The writing has been on the wall for a while that I’m going to have to move away from consoles and game mainly on PC, where there are other options for obtaining games. Walled gardens all having Apple pricing is unacceptable to me.
Yup, which is exactly how Nintendo wants it. I feel like they’ve always had things that mitigated their BS “never lower the price of games, EVER” philosophy, most notably cheaper hardware than the competition and a lower price point for games ($60 rather than $70). Now they have a console that’s almost as much as a PS5 AND are charging MORE than $70 for some of their games? Maybe the market can handle their excessive pricing, but I hope they get knocked down a peg.
The fact that you have to have alerts to be able to get the games at a discount is pretty bad, but you’re doing it the right way!
I can’t imagine trying to play games designed for controllers on a touch screen.
can play any game from consoles up to some ps3
up to a lot of Switch, you mean.
They do fill a “good for all ages” niche that not many other AAA games do nowadays. Which makes the exorbitant pricing especially strange.
the ones I do will probably be when they go on sale for like, 10-15% off
Which is almost never.
Not that prices will be much better for long
Won’t they, though? Even disregarding the option of piracy, while new games will be $70 or $80 or whatever at launch, they go down eventually and Steam pricing has always been better than console.
The game market crashed before. It can do so again.
If the only thing keeping them as friends is playing all the latest ass-expensive games with them, they’re not worth having as friends.
And I will bail to PC as my main way of playing games. I know I’m going to have to eventually, the way the industry is going.
Dat’s da joke.
Marvel Heroes. Hopefully the private servers being worked on will be in a playable state someday.
