Premieres sometime in 2026. The new PV is here. Check out the ANN article for additional information. Not too much is known about the specifics of the show yet. Here is what AniList has in place of a synopsis:
Bandai Namco Filmworks announced on Saturday that the Ghost in the Shell franchise is getting a new television anime series in 2026. Science SARU will produce the anime, which is tentatively titled Kōkaku Kidōtai (The Ghost in the Shell). Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G are on the production committee for the series.
So, like I mentioned in the post, we don’t really know specifics about this adaptation yet. But, based on the visual and what the creator, Masamune Shirow, is quoted as saying in the ANN article, I am guessing this is a new adaptation rather than a continuation of a previous iteration of GITS.
I have heard from manga readers that the series can be pretty silly and humorous compared to how GITS is portrayed in anime. With Science SARU and the key animator for Dan Da Dan heading up this project, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this lean closer to the manga in tone and style.
This is suppose to be a truly faithful Manga adaptation. Hopefully we get all the humor and lesbianism along with it.🙂
If we’re lucky, it’ll look like the FMVs from the original PlayStation game:

This is third adaptation of OG “Ghost in The Shell” manga?
I think so…the manga creator also lumped a third series (Arise) in there, but I don’t think it is technically an adaptation of the same source material. Though, I am not a GITS reader, so not sure.
those are all different continuities, so this would be the 4th adaptation. The art, especially the character design, is just like in the manga so it seems like it’s going to be a more direct adaptation of the source material
